I'm always willing to put up a good argument when I know i'm in the right, though this guy took it a step further.

Possibly the people upholding the law in these cases should be well versed in those laws they intend to uphold, or have access to it for reference. As should the person making the stance be fully aware of the laws they are protesting.

How many of us submit blindly to authority?

sorry, but i hope that guy gets done with wasting police time

it would have took him 10 secs to show him the bag, instead he purposfully went out and got himself arrested, no doubt so he can sue and make some cash
not to mention put his family through the ringer as well

yeah we all have rights, but whats so dangerous about someone looking in your bag and checking your reciept?
arsehole

With so many choices of things to take a postion on in life, I would have chosen another fight and espically another day. He ruined his little sisters birtday for his own selfesh agenda.

Glad Im not related.

Besides, reducing theft helps keep costs down.

Yah, I wonder what his Father's view on it was. Seeing he had to put up the bail.

I think that the stand this man is taking is a waste of time and energy. It is fair and reasonable for a retailer to ensure that their goods leave the premises legitimately. As far as I can tell the request was made in a polite manner so where's the problem?

I think he is being a pedant and his energy would be better spent on stage. Here's to hoping that the law takes a dim view of his actions and that his family can get him to see sense and put his voice to a better purpose.

i bet if there was a bomb in a bag going into a plane that wasnt checked, he'd be the 1st to say "why wasnt it done?"

i get really pissed off with people get all uptight on civil liberties
yeah we all have rights, 1st to agree with that.
but we also live in a time where society is breaking down, and in order to preserve what we have, we gotta work a little harder at it

was like the stupid lefties i saw one day protesting the possibility of ID cards here
"but but but all your stuff will be stored on a compter!"
aye like it's not already?
"but but but what if you have something to hide?"
then your a criminal

i think we actually changed one guys mind about it

you can't live your whole life looking for government conspiracy's
at some point you have to put some faith in them, whether you want to or not

one thing's for sure
if something terrible happens, ie another 9/11 or even another glasgow airport, and it gets out it could have been avoided do to lax security, who do you think will be at the front of the queue demanding to know why it wasn picked up on?

thats right mr "i-have-rights-and-i-know-them"
well guess what matey, due to you shouting about your rights and urging people not to comply, YOU'RE to blame
ya shit-stabber

/endrant
(think that possibly the closest thing to a political belief i've ever had!)

The facts are if they want you they will find a law no matter how far they bend it to use aginst you..

In Tampa , Fl they where doing construction on a road, the construction crew had the road blocked a Judge got out of his car and told the crew to move he was in a hurry the crew refused, he called for a patrol car. When the patrol car arrived he told the officer who he was and said court in now in session he told the crew to move out of his way or they would be held in contempt of court and the officer told them they would have to move or face jail time...
So basically they will do what they want.

While the guy in the blog is misguided, it makes you think how much out there we take as law, when its not, or how far someone is allowed to take those laws.

Tbh the only thing I wondered was whether the State unfortunate enough to claim him as a resident had actually remembered to put that particular law in place.

I've only ever been asked to show proof of purchase when the person on the counter has forgotten to deactivate the tag and I subsequently triggered the alarm as I've left the shop. I was politely asked to show my receipt even though I had my whatever it was (probably a computer game) in the retailers bag. I didn't mind at all when I was stopped and asked to show my receipt. It took no more than a minute of my time to do. No hassle at all.

Touc... I almost agree with you regarding the ID card system, which I support in principle but not in practice for the reasons cited in our other discussion thread However, I disagree with your name calling as those "stupid lefties" are "Woolly Liberals" ;)

Parrot, we've had similar reports of officials taking advantage of their position over here.
