General leecher rant

Okay, I have mentioned it several times in DC chat, but now I have a forum to abuse, so why not? :bad-words:

What's really starting to twist my nipples (in a non-erotic manner!) is the increasingly selfish and 'me first' attitude in the Tasmanian P2P community towards their responsiblities.

There appears to be a 'core' group of dedicated sharers (hi Sponge, Anachronous, Phil, Shaggy, Squiddey and others) who source and host the vast majority of quality 0-1 Day Warez.

To these people I say "well done, congratulations, we really appreciate your efforts."

The majority of people involved (I will name no names, but I wish DC supported public display of their ratios) however, seem to be there just for the leeching. How many times have you uploaded to certain people? How many times do you ever get anything from them?

We have a community of several dozen, yet when you search for sources a couple of days after release, what do you find? The original source, plus maybe a few others. This does not get much better as time goes on.

Don't give me shit about "I can't share much, I only have a small hard drive" wah wah... and a small penis also, no doubt. If people just put aside 4-6Gb for real warez like recent isos and screeners, then stuff would get circulated dramatically faster - to everyone's benefit.

My share is small, compared to others but at least it's quality, demanded files, not 20Gb of shit mp3/video and useless applications. I have uploaded multiple copies of the same thing, and I do not find them being shared by the people that download them! There seems to be a 'get it burn it/watch it, delete it' attitude.

People need to take a good long look at their behaviour, and wake up to themselves, or else they may just find that the sources of their pleasure have dried up, and gone away.

/end rant.

yes also people need to understand, not that im there now, so it doesnt matter.

There is a group of people that i usually upload to, to get the files out, so after that, its usually easier for people to get the files of someone else rather than me. its quicker for all that way.

but also my ratio was over 3, uploaded 90+gig since my last install of windows.

there are a lot of people in DC that only there to get files, not to give anything in return, like most of us will download something new, then swap. some people dont seem to download anything externally and want it all in DC. those people wonder why they then dont get slots.

This is why I mentioned 'the P2P community' in general, not just picking on DC.

Arguments over DC's faults really belong in a another forum, but great program that it is, it's monosource and inept queueing properties aren't helping the situation.

its not so much the multisource that bothers me, as most new files on another program such as shareaza, arent multisource when i first start them. Unless you want to get an old program or leave it a couple weeks until its filtered out, the new stuff isnt multisource.

Emule and Shareaza you can ban people from getting files from you, but you cant actually "grant a slot" such as in DC, which stops the bitching.
I am not sure if the prob with queues in DC is from lack of control or too much control. If there was no slot control, except bans, no one would be able to **Lady**. But this would require a better auto queue handling ability.

What is the functionality of 'add user to friends', 'give friend slot' in emule then?

When I did it to someone they got given a slot instantly (kicking a user), then after they got some Mb, were replaced.

Do they increase in your queue faster or something?

On multisourcing - neither is DC, but someone has to bring in a complete (or incomplete, for MS) source to share. The beauty of MS is that even while you are getting part of the download, you are sharing what you already have.

So if we both get one ISO and share it, not only are we swapping it, but other people can get involved and build up the part base.

yeah thats the really good part. sharing it while it downloads.

Now this is what REALLY Winds my crank. :bad-words: This is the "attitude" that gives me the shits about p2p atm, and why I refuse to participate.

If things get cleaned up a bit, then I will come back. Also on the note of leeching, I have noticed it substantially. Downloading 300 megs, and uploading 9 gigs - thats just not fair guys.

On the other side of the coin, being on the lite plan, I rely heavily on free servers. this may change once I can afford something more substantial.
