BioWare's Star Wars MMO to Be Revealed on Oct 21?

Following rumors that BioWare will be unveiling its new Knights of the Old Republic MMO later this month, BioWare and LucasArts have announced that they will be holding an event to reveal a new project on October 21.

The event, to take place at LucasArts' offices in San Francisco, promises "the official unveiling of the game that's been rumored about for years," according to Gamasutra.

After months of speculation, Electronic Arts CEO John Riccitello spilled the beans on the new Star Wars MMO during an interview at E3.

Since then, rumors have circulated regarding when the companies might officially announce the game. Last week, a columnist for the UK paper The Daily Star teased that he would be filing a report on the title later this month.

I'm sure we won't get a release date then. I wouldn't surprised if we get the release date 30 days prior. As to keep SWG from collapsing prematurely.

I wonder if they'll throw SOE a bone of some sort to compensate them for when SWG is eclipsed by this project, such as server-farm management or a deal to clone their Station technology. After all, The Station and the way it facilitated direct digital sales and downloads of SWG's expansion packs is one of the few things SOE got right.

The old-style server? Meaning pre-Combat Upgrade SWG? Or the current version of SWG?

Am not sure what they call it, but have heard there is a group out there that has basically cloned SWG and it is still pre-NGE when they went to the all iconing classes. Back when you could pick and choose the skills that your toon learned instead of being locked into a strict skill set for a particular profession.

Yes it's Pre-CU. I believe we even have one of their corespondents here :P

You can play it, but currently crafting is only very basic (you can craft the tools and not much else), and until that is done, there isnt a lot you can do except for fight critters or PVP. Also because its under developement, they do server wipes from time to time.

Other than that, its fully playable. You need http://launchpad.thewildclan.com/ to get started.

I was around for Bria Reborn until someone buggerred off with all the donations for the server. It took a massive backward step after that, but I know some of the old DN lot are on a EMU TC. They have alot of content in but no crafting I believe. And if more than 20 people are in one city the server melts into a pool of piss.... Its progress though.
Morgan Leah Is back and with new SWG friends.

Their test server was/is basically an Athlon 64 on a cable-modem connection, last I knew. Impressive performance, considering the setup. Especially considering all the snide remarks Smedley & Co. made a few years ago, snickering at the thought that anyone would be smart enough to get pre-CU code up and running at all. Remember Smed saying, "Heh... I'd hire him..."? Well, I can hear the collective "SCREW YOU!!!" from the Emu dev team.
