The Chinese government has announced details of its plan to target internet cafes, illegal computer markets and specific online games to reduce juvenile crime, the Associated Press reports.
The plan, dubbed "Operation For Tomorrow", is aimed at restricting access to online games that the Chinese government considers violent or undesirable for young people. The announcement clarifies a statement released in January in which officials condemned online gaming as a "spiritual opium."
The government intends to close several unlicensed internet cafes and increase regulation on legal ones, citing the presence of readily-available access to online gaming as breeding grounds for internet addiction.
As a means of regulating the industry, China has enacted laws barring anybody under the age of 18 from entering internet cafes, and mandated time restrictions on adult players. Recent figures released by the state-owned Xinhua News Agency estimate that over 40 million people in China play online games.

Well, isn't that special? The percetage of crime related to computer games is such an insignificant amount why even bother? Want a better solution, take care of your kids, play the games they play so you know what they are doing. Teach them right from wrong, fantasy from reality, and that games are for fun!
But, hey, take that many people off the internet and maybe we will have less lag and faster downloads!!! Sweet!!!!

TV Baby sitters have been replaced by Console baby sitters. Why play with your kids when they can do it themselves in the other room while you watch some reality tv crap.

Reality TV sucks!!! I am so sick of that crap! And yet, the writers strike effected them too??? How is that possible? Again, don't watch it, don't care.
But, you are right, sadly, too many people let their kids just do whatever they want as long as it does not interrupt their TV or computer time. I just don't understand it. My kids are in baseball, I attend practices and games when I can depending on my work schedule, and usually sacrifice sleep in order to attend and cheer my sons on. I am not parent of the century by any means, but I have a lot of interest in what my kids do, who they hang out with and make sure that they put education above everything else. I guess not all parents care that much and that is evident by articles like this.
