Hub Lan

ok, i know that this has been brought up before, but Pits and i were talking about arraging one.
the problems would be the lack of switches, powerboards, tables and chairs.
what i would suggest is that everyone brings their own chairs.
and i heard somewhere that u can hire tables off Lions Club, and places like that?
we have found a likley venue, and the cost would depend on how many people go..
because we have a venue, this is quite likley to work.
it would be a filesharing and games lan. there willl be a DC hub running.
any idea's, suggestions or comments?

The true feeling of a lan is people working together as a group u know..
Sure we could hire pgc out.. but theres not as much fun as people offering hardware to loan n stuff to get it up n going... requires mroe work but it would rock better.
My personal opinion.
If anyone wants to meet n organise something even write stuff on paper talk to me on dc or msn or icq or email and we canorganise a plan nite or something.

I would certainly be interested ... as long as i dont have a clash.
I have a 8 port 100 switch and a 5 port 100 switch that i can bring.
I also can bring a few 10Mb switches. but really whats the point of that.
let me know with some lead up time, so that i can sort personal stuff out

i totally agree with Pits,
the atmosphere is just not the same..
and it would probally be ALOT cheaper to hire out another place

Yea, and then we can we can all play CS with AWPs and **Lady** about netspaces proxy.
If you think its fun to not have the equipment because someone forgot it, coz it will "rock", may I suggest to stop smoking crack?

haha.. watch pits cry, cause no one else wants to play CS with AWP's
How about you all hire out the hall across the road, so i dont have to move my pc, ill just link in through wireless.

well we can do the pgc... cause i will probably cry if someone forgets a 5 port switch or something.. If its the general consensus pgc it is.. but who wants to help organise the lan? oh n thanx Sponge for the pgc url. Now Im up to speed on their rules...
So write down if you are interested in:
1. Attending
2. Planning
3. Setup stuff
4. Other
Doesnt everyone use awps with cs? I mean really... Oh wait you must use wallhacks eh?

Holy crap! PGC has a website?
y'know, you could just turn up to any BFG or Lantastic...

Psycho, the whole idea of this is for a "hub lan"
not a big "CSfest" lan.. aka BFG, Lantastic

yes its where we all play nothing but star wars rebellion all night.

Actually, we are going to have to look at banning DC at BFG, at least during competition time.
Last BFG, one switch was totally maxed out on 100% utilisation to the point where game data transfers were being impacted.
It was like 7-9Mb/sec constant for 10 hours...

Instead of Banning it couldnt you just ask people who wish to transfer files to sit at one of the desks and just use that switch even if you then take the uplink out of the switch during game times so no other users can try to sneak in affecting game play !!
Just a thought never been to a bfg so not sure if it could work

Yes, that's one solution we considered.
We can't really have an antileeching policy, and also officially direct people to the 'leech desk' as well though.
Also, not everyone leeches all the time, what if someone is finished sharing and wants to go out to the lan to play?
offtopic: Xeon, I asked, and the managed switch cannot do packet prioritisation.
Hmmm

In dc chat cus_server offered invitations to a lan at his house, with 1Gbit goodness.
Maybe you might want to talk to him?
