Why not a Vampire MMO?

Unread post by Molten Prominence » Sun Nov 18, 2007 12:56 pm

It seems a lot of MMO games these days are filled with gunfights, wizardry, elves etc. I would enjoy something different.

I read Anne Rice's Vampire trilogy years back and I loved how she captured the essense of what it was like to be a vampire. Anyone who read The vampire Lestat would know and understand why he acted like such a prick in the movie Interview with a Vampire.

I wish someone would make a MMO about Vampires w/ the same sort of guidlines written in those books. I think it could be the perfect game to have perma-deaths. Vampires gain their strength by age and so the longer you can stay alive, the stronger you get:

In the book vampires would go "into the earth" and sleep for centuries. When they awakened they would have gained strength but not nearly as much as if they stayed awake for all those years. When you want to log, you would go into your safe coffin and sleep.

Of course when the game starts, ur just human and have to be bitten.

There would have to be some other force that would combat the vampires otherwise whats the point.
-Human- Maybe a human legion against vampires but who would choose that? Maybe make it worthwhile like no perma-death etc.
-Werewolves- Make it vampire vs werewolf game wl humans in the middle.

Or have just vampires against vampires for supremacy of the human race w/ different vamp guilds.

The vamp vs wolf sounds like it could make for an intense MMO especially w/ different evironments and two totally different storylines.

What you guys think?

About the perma death: When u died you would get to keep whatever belongings you obtained. Ex. Your Count Dracula necklace u keep when u die :P but can only wear it again when u reach that lvl/age.

I know you were talking about an Ann Rice-themed major release, but maybe I can tide you over a bit, molt...

Dark Eden

A quick little low-tech MMO called Vampires!

A text and turn-based vamp MMO called Crimson Moon

And CCP (makers of EVE Online) are doing an MMO based on White Wolf's "World of Darkness" series.

Okay, it's official...I know WAY too much about this damn genre'.

I'm sure a Vampire MMO would require a mature rating, which might be the only thing hold them back previously. Interesting to see what CCP do.

An MMO based on The Vampire Lestat or Memnoch The Devil would be ace. But, I'd much much rather see a Vampire MMO based on the White Wolf series, Vampire The Masquerade.

Else any of the first 9 books of Laurel K. Hamilton's, Anita Blake, Vampire Hunterseries, which made Buffy seem mundane. Come to think of it Jim Butcher's Dresden Files books could also bring a fun world in which to explore.

Or even an MMO set in the Blade universe.

A limitless love, without hatred or enmity."
