AT least seven people were killed and scores injured when a freeway bridge over the Mississippi River in Minneapolis collapsed and sent up to 100 cars into the water.

The bridge was packed with early rush-hour traffic when it fell at about 6.15pm (9.15am AEST). At least three sections collapsed, with a fourth feared to follow.

Rescue officials told CNN there could be between 50 and 100 cars in the river.

Not just a single portion, its the whole thing. You'd think bridges would be engineered against falling like dominos.

I just saw this on the news and it looks shocking. I sincerely hope that none of our MOBsters were caught up in this.

The report keeps changing too. When I first saw this during lunch break at work, they were reporting 3 people confirmed dead. Then at our last coffee/smoke break of the day the toll was up to 6 people. Then when I got home and flipped on the idiot box, there was only 1 confirmed dead.

Just from looking at the wreckage, its suprising that the death toll is so low. When I first saw the video on the news, I thought to myself..."Oh boy, this is gunna be bad". 1, 3, or 6 deaths is still bad, but it could have been much much worse.

From what I heard on the news, the rescue services have stopped till daybreak. They are expecting the death toll to rise as they dig people out.
