The senior at the University of Utah gets dressed and then decides which gun is easiest to conceal under his clothes.
If he's wearing a T-shirt, he'll take a smaller, low-profile gun to class. If he's wearing a coat, he may carry a different weapon, he said.
He started carrying a gun to class after the massacre at Virginia Tech, but the student says he's not part of the problem of campus shootings and could instead be part of a solution.
Nick, who asked not to be fully identified so his fellow students wouldn't know he carried a gun, says he has had a concealed weapons permit for more than three years. But it was Seung-Hui Cho's murderous campus rampage that made him take a gun to class.

Can see why, but the logic that it is going to help doesn't sit well with me. Guess we should arm the professors as well, or even better, the janitorial and cafeteria staff.
No matter who has a weapon, there is a mentality involved in taking that weapon and using it to harm or kill another person. And if a person has that mind set that they are going to kill someone, the other people with the weapons have to be willing to take down this gunman as well. In that moment of hesitation it could cost the "good samaritan" his life. It's different if you are in the military or law enforcement, there it's a matter of my life or theirs. But what college/high school student seriously thinks about that on a day to day basis? It is sad that our society is as such that no longer is prom or graduation the biggest concern, but is more of hoping to live to the end of the semester.
Anyway, just my two cents worth.
Good idea

Coming from someone that has worked in law enforcement and security for several years, I believe this is a good idea. Especially if the potential gunman doesn't know who is and who is not armed...the same argument for shall issue concealed carry permits works here too. If the bad guys don't know who is armed, they are gonna be less likely to do soemthing stupid in the first place. I myself have a CCP and have no problems carrying anywhere permitted and I also do not see a problem with others doing the same.

I would rather have a gun and not need it, rather than not have a gun and need it.
Imagine - you go to the supermarket, you decide not to have a legally concealed weaopn due to principals etc.
A robbery takes place, robbery goes wrong and your two kids end up dead, you can do nothing.
Or you have a legaly concealed weaopn and when robbery goes wrong and the bad guys start shooting, you whip out your gun and blast the fuckers before they shoot your kids.
I can understand that by having a concealed weapon whether legal or not for protection, raises the chance of using it in the wrong situation, or at the wrong time and potentialy escalating the situation and making it worse. However if people are trained properly to only use the weaopn as a last resort and then licenensed, then surley it could save lifes and be used as a deterant to crims who may think twice about using guns themselves, cause they dont know who also has a gun.
At the end of the day if someone wants a gun they can get it if they look hard enough. I would rather someone that needs to or wants to carry a gun is properly trained and liscened.
Totally agree!

The bad guys seem to get guns. Somehow I dont think they follow the gun laws unfortunately.
The trouble is that often when it is legal to carry a weapon, the licence is far too easy to get, and often the weapons are too. Which puts them into the hands of Idiots and kids.
There are plenty of idiots I've met over my lifetime that I wouldnt want anywhere near a gun, even though they arent criminals.

True my best mate is a good example, he bought two onehanded crossbows on the internet, and when we were drinking in his garden. The neighbours cat jumped into his garden and started pissing on his plants. He previosly had said he hates the cat cause its destroying some of his plants.
So he said he would be back n a moment, appeared with the crossbows with a fitted sight on them and shot at the cat, he was pissed and missed thankgod, but one of the bolts went through a gap in his fence and landed somewhere in his other neighbours garden - it gets worse, he scaled his fence and tried to retrieve the bolt. The neighbours security lights came on, the dog started barking, so he ran away. And the neighbour came out and saw me sitting in my mates garden with a beer and asked me who i was and if i was in his garden. I told him my mate owns this house and he's in the toilet, and i didnt see anyone - i did say the other neighbours cat was prowling about and maybe it set of his dog and lights.
Luckily the neighbour didnt see the crossbow bolt and everything eventually was cool. But it could have been a lot worse, although we do laugh about it now.
Im just glad he didnt have a gun.
But I still stand by what I stated earlier, im just glad in britain their isnt the same gun culture than there is in america. Although again if someone wants a gun the can still get it if they look hard enough.

Funny, I dont recall hearing were a licensed conceal gun owner use their gun in anything but self defense.
On a side note a cop friend of mine was killed last week by two drug dealers. Both had records and one just got out of jail that morning.

He was a good father and worked installing hvac units to make ends meet in his off time.
Seems the bad guys have guns at their disposal.

Sorry to hear that a good hard working cop got killed in the line of duty.
You are correct lores - if a crim wants a gun theyll get it and some are not scared to use it, they dont care about the consequences, wether licenscened or not.
In Britain we dont have to worry about guns, it's more of knife culture here. And every toe rag just needs to open their mums cutlery drawer to get one.
Ta for the offer touc, but I dont need a gun at the moment. But I appreciate the offer.
