Beleaguered Citigroup is upgrading its mile-high club with a brand-new $50 million corporate jet - only this time, it's the taxpayers who are getting screwed.

Even though the bank's stock is as cheap as a gallon of gas and it's burning through a $45 billion taxpayer-funded rescue, the airhead execs pushed through the purchase of a new Dassault Falcon 7X, according to a source familiar with the deal.

The French-made luxury jet seats up to 12 in a plush interior with leather seats, sofas and a customizable entertainment center, according to Dassault's sales literature. It can cruise 5,950 miles before refueling and has a top speed of 559 mph.

There are just nine of these top-of-the-line models in the United States, with Dassault's European factory churning out three to four 7Xs a month.

Citigroup decided to get its new wings two years ago, when the financial-services giant was flush with cash, but it still intends to take possession of the jet this year despite its current woes, the source said.

"Why should I help you when what you write will be used to the detriment of our company?" replied Bill McNamee, head of CitiFlight Inc., the subsidiary that manages Citigroup's corporate fleet, when asked to comment about the new 7X.

"What relevance does it have but to hurt my company?"

It's not uncommon for large companies to pay a deposit on a new plane then cancel the order before delivery, according to a source in the corporate aviation business.

Citigroup execs are also quietly trying to unload two of their older Dassault 900EXs.

Those jets, nearly 10 years old, are worth an estimated $27 million each. They were still listed for sale yesterday on the Web site of Citigroup's aviation broker, Aviation Professionals.

A company representative said she would not comment on "brokering both sides of the deal" when asked about the incoming Falcon 7X.

The Dassaults are part of CitiFlight's Gulf Sierra fleet, which includes the two Falcon 900EXs, tail numbers N399GS and N588GS, currently for sale. FAA records show Citigroup reserved a new tail number, N488GS, possibly for the incoming 7X on Nov. 10 last year.

A woman answering the phone at CitiFlight's private hangar in White Plains said she was "not authorized to release information" about the new jet.

Dassault's US sales office declined to comment.

Citigroup spokesman Stephen Cohen declined to comment.

I realize that this is way out of line to buy this jet. But does anyone stop to think how much the government spends on shit projects too? A lot more then 50 mill yet no one **ladies**.

I never agreed with the first bail out, nor do I agree with any other bail out. If you can't make it in business, if you screwed over your share holders, you should go DOWN in flames.

The bail out was not 100% a Republican idea. The Dems wanted it most, the Dems are the ones who hatched the majority of the plan. Hell it came from the same committee that caused the mortgage melt down in the first place.

Congress never put in place any type of tracking method, the Demarcate controlled congress btw.

Yes, I blame Bush in part for the bail out too, but the guy who ran the damn thing was a Dem, who told us all that if we don't do something fast, we will all die.

What did it accomplish?

Show me a country that borrowed and spent its way out of a recession. Most recent example was Japan in the 1990's. Didnt work then, wont work now. Government cuased the problem.

Get's good around the 60second mark:

we can lay blame or we can work to fix it

what do you chose?

sadly most folk look at blaming than solutions
when we fix that, then we may see a way out

But, the people who cuased it are still in power. Seems to me they arent the right ones to fix it.

Aside, if Nancy Pelosi was the CEO of Citi she would say the jet was part of her stimulus package :P

This isn't a stimulus package it's a 1 trillion dollar expansion of government and payback to the unions etc... for voting the Dem's in.

Shamefull. BIG BIG government is here...The United States of Socialist America.

I agree with touc, most people do look to blame someone and complain, rather than resolve the situation.

Working in the retail mobile industry is the worst for it, people come in the shop moaning about stuff, when after about 20 mins of listening to them moaning and complaing and you finaly work out what their complaining about, you ask them the simplist question ever. What is it that you want me to do, to help you with the issue. 9 times out of ten, the customer wont be able to answer because they have not thought about a resolution to rectifying their issue, all they have thought about is moaning.

Most of the time the resolution to their issue is a simple one, or there isnt an issue in the first place. But they dont care, moaning and complaining seems to be more ineteresting to them.

For example, issue is, customer wants to take out a phone contract but dont have correct ID, so cant take out a phone contract.
Resolutions to issue is - go away spend the time to get proper ID, or take out a pay as you go phone, or get someone they know maybe a family member to take out the phone contract for them, or fuck off and go to another mobile phone shop.

What actually happens is you tell the customer the required ID, customer moans, and asks if their birth certificate is ok or their bus pass. Again you explain the ID requirments and even say only the ID i have mentioned is required to get contract with this company. Is this good enough for the customer - no. They then start moaning about how they need a contract and how its pathetic that I am refusing their business, then they ask if their works ID will do or a letter from their doctor and how vodafone allowed them to get a contract.

I mean for fucks sake, no matter how much they moan is not gonna change anything, their not eligable for a phone contract, its a fact.

Or customers pay as you go mobile braodband dongle is not working, I test it on works laptop to see if any error messages come up, it wont actually respond at all. Next step is to send away to engineers for assesment. Dongle comes back from engineers, issue was, dongle has liquid damage so is not covered under manufacturers warranty, customer comes to pick it up, goes mental at me because he has damaged his device and we didnt fix it, I explain manufaturers warranty only covers manufacturing faults, not any other damage. Customer asks me what now, what am i going to do about it. I explain, theirs nothing I can do, as product was not covered under warranty due to liquid damage etc. Customer wants to know his options. I explain his options are to buy a new one if he wants to continue using the mobile internet services. Customer goes mental acuses me of being the worst customer service person hes ever dealt with and the company I work for is a joke. Even though the guy stinks of dung and has the worst hair plugs ever, with crazy brown gungy stuff in his hair (hes the joke)

My point is why moan about it, fact is the device is not working and its not covered under warranty, customer does not have insurance, the device was damaged via somekind of liquid damage which is customers responsibility, he probaly spilt something over it. Moaning about its not gonna change anything.

Sorry had a bad day at work, dealt with a bunch of moaning freaks.

Sorry about the rant in above post - I am de-stressed now lol.

About the actual posted issue, the british gov's the same, I constantly read in the papers about government wasting millions of tax payers money on crap. Heard today we spend £50 million on a painting, that nobody cares about so it can stay in scotland.

Never mind about the fact, people are struggling to pay bills and eat, but hey we get to go and see a crappy painting, and no doubt well have to pay to see it, even though we own it, bastards.

Then theirs the bank bail outs, hundreds of millions of our money spend to subsidise banks, what do the banks then do, give their bosses massive bonuses and spend tonnes of cash on mad parties.

Then theirs the biggest turkey ever, the scottish parliment building cost about £450 mill or so, it looks crap, its falling apart, due to poor design and construction, so more money to fix it, and to top it all of we paid people from other countries tonnes to design it and help build it, so the money spend wasnt even kept within our economy, and we gave them all free condoms so they wouldnt impregnate our women and leave loads of single mothers. Because the argument is single mothers are a drain on the economy. I say they people in charge are a drain on our economy.

Now it looks like the govornment is gonna give millions to the chanel 4 tv chanel, because its lost loads of advertising revenue due to the credit crunch. Well maybe if it wouldnt pay its bosses over a million pounds a year wages and then turn round and give them £450,000 christmas bonus's, they wouldnt need my taxes.

Im earning less money due to the credit crunch, getting less commision on sales, wheres my government bail out.
All that happens is I have to pay stupid stealth taxes like in 2012 ill have to pay £20 a year internet tax so that people that cant be arsed working can have the internet. No doubt that £20 will be more like a £100 come the time when to pay.

I actualy feel really de-stressed now.

Lol.

I did consider applying for your position, but 8 years doing a variety of contact centre jobs, put me off it.

I needed to do something different, plus sitting using a head set continually was starting to affect my hearing, my ears needed a break. I reckon Im gonna see how retails goes for the next 3-4 months and decide if I want to stay in it.
Exec office sounds ace from what youve said though. I wouldnt rule out a move back to head office, in the future though.

it's not contact centre either. probably the biggest misconception about the place
we don't deal with customer directly over the phone. only if something has been put in writing or came through one of the governing bodies do we deal with it. so when someone phones in and says "your companys shit" we reinforce that by telling them we're not going to help them

lucky if i take 4 or 5 calls in a day
rest of it's snooping around

had a hangover the other day and didnt do any work at all
just sat there all confused for the whole day without lifting a finger or speaking to a single person

Sounds like my dream job lol.

Oh well - If I had applied for it, doesnt mean to say I would have goten it over you anyway, chances with your retail experience and big balls you would have gotten the job.

But I do like retail, and its character building, when youve got a 6foot 5 body builder thats half cut telling me im shite and the companys shite. And I shout get out the shop or your barred, move move move you disgusting excuse for a human being, and the fact he didnt whack me about the head and he left and apologised for being an arse was a great experience.

The travel times as well are a big factor, as I leave the house 30 mins before I start and get home 30 mins after I finish is great, and thats me walking to and from work.

However I reckon Ill be keeping an eye out for any exec positions coming up lol
