Time to educate the schools in common sense?
The Times ran a story about a rather absurd situation in American schools where one girl was strip-searched because she had ibuprofen (this one's gone to the US Supreme Court), another was suspended and faces expulsion for taking the birth control pill at school whereas other schools ban kids from applying sunscreen or sharing cough sweets with friends.

How long before school-kids will face suspension for bringing their own sandwiches in for lunch?

Today marks the first time in my life where I feel compelled to write the words "It was better in my day." Really.

It's all about being PC and in control. As we move further toward not allowing any form of physical punishment (don't smack your children!), the only way we have left of protecting ourselves from every possible situation, is by having far too many rules. Which in the end will be fine, as eventually no one will ever leave their house, except for criminals (like smokers and people who swear)...

They never found the medicine either.

That same girl could go get an abortion without telling her parents. Not starting an abortion debate but rather the ubsurdity of it all.

Some schools are already dictating what parents are allowed to put in thier kids packed lunches. The school my sisters kids go to will check lunchboxes and TAKE OUT stuff that the kids aren't allowed..such as crisps, chocolate, fizzy drinks...

Thats insane. I can understand why though, as some kids are given complete crap to eat at school. However i dont feel its the schools responsibility or right to confiscate what they deem to be unacceptable lunches. What happens to this stuff? does the teachers divide it up in the staff room to take home and give to their kids lol. Nazi britain it is.
Their is an obesity issue in britain, like a lot of countries at moment. However rediculous heavy handed tactics like stealing childrens sweets is not the answer, at the end of teh day it is stealing.

This sounds crazy but the only good coming out of this credit crunch is their parents wont be able to afford crap to give their kids and computer games etc. Might see more kids out playing in fresh air and drinking water and eating proper food.

Alos noticed where I live there is a lot of kids now playing outside, their has been special vandel proof games courts erceted in local parks, when i say parks lol its really bits of grass in the middle of housing schemes.. Which the kids can play footbal and basketball. Also seeing alot more police on the beat, might be due to more kids on the street and increased crime due to the credit crunch, not sure. But keep seeing mounted police wandering about on horses on a regular basis in town. Another good thing from the credit crunch bobbies on the beat which has been needed and wanted for a long time.
Sorry for diversifying from topic. But I believe its all related in a round about way.

As I sit here, waiting for my son to come home from school, who turned 18 a few weeks ago, I find my self thinking back to when I was in high school.

I walked about a quarter mile to the bus stop in 9th and 10th grade. The bus made one stop in our area so some walked a few yards, while others walked 1/4 mile. Weather had no bearing. Our school district had school even with 4 foot of snow. (here, they cry about 1" of snow). Today, they make busses stop at EVERY HOUSE!.. Lord knows there's pedophiles at every corner!

We started our first class at 7am. Last class ended at 2:55. Each class lasted 50 minutes with 10 minutes between each one. Sure we had some with alcohol in the their cars, a few carried knives they shouldn't have and these were caught. Never had a major issue however. We had decent school lunches, a sort of alacart style or you packed your own. Think the worst issue was pot.

Today, they get 35 to 40 minutes per class, 3 to 5 minutes to go till next one and eat shipped in food a day old and worry about asprin in a girls pocket.

I've lived knowing 6 US Presidents, not counting Johnson, or Nixon even though being born in '59 not old enough to 100% say I've seen them but I do recall JFK's ride down PA Ave, in a box. Voted for my first Precedent in 1980, age 20. I saw Carter how he fucked us over, and the birth child of today's economic disaster. Voted Republican ever since starting with Reagan.

What Gelf referred too in this post does not surprise me. We've had this shit going on for the past several years, it's just built up to this point. Where a kid can get the pill from the school nerse, but be damned if you can bring a plastic fork and knife to cut your left over dinner to eat for lunch.

Yep, I'm not a bit surprised. No one really cares though do they? So what? Soon, America will join the rest of the peace loving, tree hugging, muslim ass kissing world and become just as they always wanted us, a socialized country.
