Ok Guys testing out a local bit torrent tracker im hosting
http://ntasbt.no-ip.info:6969/
now this tracker is hosted by my machine so if you upload any torrents you have to make sure the tracker Anounce server is
http://ntasbt.no-ip.info:6969/announce
try to keep your torrent open once you finished it is just a small community so we need as many seeds as we can
dont give out the torrent file to any non netspace user or upload it to another torrent page (i can see if anyone out side the ip range is connected and the tracker will be taken offline)
This is not going to replace dcc so share your files there as well just a way for the popular files to be multi sourced

How to make a Torrent
Ok to setup the Torrent file you need to download a program called maketorrent it is shared at http://ntasbt.no-ip.info:6969 Or you can download it from various places on the net .
Run the program go into to setting Tab and add private tracker
with options
Name= Netspace (Could be Anything really but Netspace is easier)
Announce Url = http://ntasbt.no-ip.info:6969/announce
Website Url = http://ntasbt.no-ip.info
Click save now to update the server list
Now go to the create torrent tab change the tracker to the new private tracker we just created
choose the file you want to share and press the create torrent button (You have now got a torrent file ready for uploading to the tracker)
logon to http://ntasbt.no-ip.info:6969 make sure you have created your account and upload the torrent
Now the Torrent has been uploaded we still need to seed the file so people can download it as there has to be a least one person with a 100 % complete file.
The easiest way to do this is open up the newly created torrent file you have just created browse to where your source file is then start it up the torrent client should now quickly scan the file and add it as 100 % complete keep the torrent file open now so other can download
I Hope this helps a bit any other help posts will be appreciated

Sorry dude, but i cant see this working
for one, I cant use it and my other download programs at once, i just dont have the bandwidth.
Especially to leave them open.
Secondly, I cant see me or anyone else leaving dozens of torrents open for very long. What happens after a reboot?
You download a file, dont get it all, what happens if no one hosts it, its a waste of a download.
I might as well just get off DC and at least i can get it this week, next week or the week after, without worrying.
Also. most people still want the hub open, so to have bandwidth for both, most people only have 10k upstream. say 5k for hub and 5k for BT.
So you have 5 people, all sharing 5k -10 total upstream to several BT files. This allows me to share a 5 source BT and get it from 4 others all getting 1.2 k each. But if they are upping another BT to someone else, that is halved again. I might as well just get it from DC.
Or am i seeing this wrong?

Bit Torrent test
Well it will work Anach but not the idea to replace the hub and not a place to upload obscure files the idea behind it is you upload real popular files eg entreprise or 24 or any major file everyone wants then just seed that for a few days. last night we had 10 users downloading eneterprise and 6 have all finished allready, did well wirth that epp and doing well with 24 season 3 now.
dont leave 5 torrents open leave one or two open only that way you can offer good speed
as for incomplete downloads well if you crash you start the torrent back up it will resume.
if the seeder stops seeding and you have a bit left to go still it is quite possible the other users may have the file or worse case scenario see who uploaded the torrent and ask them to reseed it for you (same as really asking for a slot on the hub)
you can reseed torrents quite easily
as for speed yeah a problem Anach with hub open as well share 7k a sec in the hub and 3 k a sec out to bt whille your getting the file even if you do finnish the torrent and close it you still have uploaded quite a bit of data whille your downloading that same file.
This is just a test a few users had the idea just really a way of multisourcing the real popular files till bcc++ gets multi sourcing working

Well, I created torrents for all the CD's in the Adobe CS Premium release. Seeded them. All but one seemed to work. The one that didn't showed an interesting side to bittorrent....
It destroyed the file. The size shrunk from 615Meg to 1k.
Any idea why this would happen.

Toddlers are the stormtroopers of the Lord of Entropy.
I am guessing some kind of wierd glitch where the hash failed so it thought the download was 'corrupt' and restarted it. I have not had this problem at all (using basic BT client).
Result of test this weekend: NWNU - 1 seeder, 6 leechers. All complete in 3 days. Nice.
Sponge, you were mentioning there was some problem with isolating the tracker to NS only. Is running BT on another external DL at the same time as a NSBT ok?

New Torrent Tracker
Been Working Hard for the last week on a new Torrent Tracker program with a lot of new features running on apache web server using mysql and php
Im now Ready to release it to the public after fixing up a new errors this version of the software is alpha version only but will suit our community well and using apache's ip blocking setup will be a lot more secure to stop any outside people from accessing the site
I decided to do this after contacting people from other states running BT Trackers and got some advice about what they use
A few things though about the new tracker it is hosted on http://ntasbt.no-ip.info the announce server to use when making torrents is now http://ntasbt.no-ip.info/announce.php. The torrent will not show up on the page till it is seedeed and you have to choose a catergory which the upload fits into eg tv, movies etc etc

Is anyone running an eDonkey server ?
Because we need to be running that. DC is a good app for exchanging files, but not for quick and efficient p2p. The way eDonkey was designed, however, so that the more you upload, the higher priority you get for downloading off the people you uploaded to, therefore the more people share.
But the point is that you can limit the amount of uploading in bandwidth, not in slots, so that at least if you multisource of 10 people when you're downloading you can get some sort of reasonable download rate all the time. No waiting in queues for days on end (providing you upload).

Xeon, the instructions for uploading a torrent are on the NSBT site (or will be, whenever it comes back). Basically you need to give the .torrentfile to the tracker so it can advertise it.
Spockboy, it's been tried a couple of times, but to date the security (exclusion of non-NS clients) and stabilty of the serverside software is in question.

It's back!
I was just about to post a pointed question here ("Where is it?") and thought I would try the base url before complaining. Lucky.
The url for the tracker has been changed to http://ntasbt.no-ip.info
