Mass Effect PC (Preview)

Unread post by Istik » Sat Feb 23, 2008 4:29 am

http://au.pc.gamespy.com/pc/bioware-rpg/853707p1.html

Though the studio is always pretty reticent about making announcements to the effect, we've come to learn that it's only a matter of time before BioWare's console games make their way to the PC. Taking this into account, it's borderline absurd how much Mass Effect seems to have improved by the simple platform transition. It's almost as if BioWare had designed the game for the PC first and retrofitted it to a joypad after the fact. The PC version really feels like it was built against a laundry list of the Xbox 360 game's interface-related shortcomings

Oh, that is good news :)

To its height, its depth, its broad extent,
A limitless love, without hatred or enmity."

Yup completely ridiculous. The crackers will crack it, and give a dummy activation server as they have done with games in the past. So the pirates win and the legit consumers lose.

They are only making life difficult for their legitimate consumers and possibly turning them to pirated solutions to fix their legitimate games. Which has happened before also.

It's not like the Playstation or Xbox is free from pirates. How many people out there hack their consoles to install other software.

Also look what happens when someone like Sony spends millions on putting protection into their consoles, someone invents a chip that bypasses it.

So matter what they do with the PC, it will be reverse engineered.

What I suspect they will do, is remove the online activation with a patch after the initial influx of sales. Stopping the average impatient pirate in the hopes to get some more sales.

more worrying is, 10 years down the line..you might fancy a game of 'good old mass effect' only to find you can no longer play, because the authentication server has been down for 3 years :P
Online authentication is a stupid idea
