The thing is. It stops people modding the game, which is bad for community and longevity. It also pisses off the customers, which is bad for the product.
Its also cracked, so pirates are unaffected. Only the buyers pay the price.
So its only a matter of time before we see all those copy protections out there fall out of favour for something less fuss and safer. Possibly online activation and checking like MS is doing with windows.
Why do we buy BF2, because of the online CD key and account required. Same as an MMO. Now Windows XP isnt multiplayer, but it has a similar system. Your key is checked whenever you go online to do something from the MS website.
For most paying users this would be less hassle. You could then backup your disk and do what you wanted. Of course pirates could still crack it.
