Web/Chat/File Sharing Server's

Unread post by Spack » Fri Oct 27, 2006 8:27 pm

Hello,
I wish to provide some kind of service to tasmanian PIIPE users.

I have a 256/128 connection to TAS.NetSpace. Its not a great speed but would be ok for irc or a tracker or something.

If there is any interest, please let me know of some server software I could run and I will put it up.

NOTE: Getting raided by police does not worry me, so running a file sharing server/tracker or something is ok. I just need to know what software to use.

You sure your connection is 256/128 and not 256/64?

You might find that hosting any form of tracker or server will suck up your upload bandwidth and leave you barely able to download unless you limit it (part of your upload bandwidth is required to maintain downloads). Which would leave you even less for hosting (around 4kb/s).

I'm not sure if the invite only TasBT tracker is still around. Hopefully if someone sees this post they can send you an invite.

I couldnt suffer the constant poor quality of service in the past few months with Netspace, so i churned to Internode.
Use of undefined constants causes assumptions!
